Responsibilities

The Building Inspection Division ensures that all construction within the City of Raymore complies with adopted building codes and safety standards to protect residents and visitors.

Assisting builders, contractors, and homeowners throughout the permit application and inspection process.
Providing timely and professional inspections to support efficient project completion.

Adopted Codes

Adopted City Building Code: City Council adopted a reorganized Chapter 500: Building Code and the most recent editions of the building codes utilized by the City to regulate the construction of residential and non-residential buildings. The current Raymore Building Code became effective Jan. 1, 2020, with local amendments.

Raymore has adopted the following codes for building and safety regulations:

Contractor Licensing

Any contractor desiring to obtain a City of Raymore Occupational License to conduct contracting work within the City limits must comply with the contractor licensing program. The contractor will need to submit the following to obtain the occupational license:

Requirements to Obtain a License

Proof of worker's compensation insurance when applicable and general liability insurance;
Proof of a passing grade of 70% or better on the appropriate certification test; or
Proof of a bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, or construction science from an accredited college or university; or
Hold a valid contractor's license from Johnson County, Kansas or other municipality to the satisfaction of the Building Official where equivalency of licensing can be substantiated for the same category for which a license is requested from the City; or
Class D Electrical Contractors that hold a Missouri Division of Professional Registration license in accordance with Section 324.900-324.945 RSMo.

Classes of Licenses

Class A: General Contractor
Class B: Building Contractor
Class C: Residential Contractor
Class D: Mechanical, Electrical, or Plumbing Contractor
Class E: Sub-Contractor

Renewal Requirements

Submittal of documentation that the licensee had at least eight (8) continuing education credits (CEU) related to the trade for which the license was issued within the last year. The Building Official is authorized to verify whether the submitted CEUs meet the requirements.

Radon Control Measures

The City of Raymore adopted Appendix F: Radon Control Methods of the 2012 International Residential Code. For any new single- or two-family dwelling permits issued, all provisions of Appendix F must be followed.
