One sculpture will be displayed on the north end of the park on an existing 4x4-foot concrete pad and one sculpture will be displayed on the park’s south end of the Arboretum Trail on a 4x4-foot concrete pad.
The Raymore Arts Commission is seeking original, pre-existing art in any media suitable for outdoor space. The public art piece must be structurally sound and the base must fit within the 4x4 ft square concrete pad. All work entered must be freestanding and capable of withstanding adverse weather conditions common to Missouri, including cold winters, occasional ice and snow, wind, humidity, hot summers, thunderstorms and heavy rain. The piece must be suitable for interaction from the public, including children, with protection from possible injury from materials. The piece must not include sharp objects or be easily climbable.
The work must be available for a period of 24 months, from May 2026 until April 2028. The selected artist will receive total payment of $3,000 ($1,500 upon installation and $1,500 upon removal) per sculpture, as well as public recognition and an opportunity for sales. The commission will provide a plaque with the art title and artist’s name and a website or contact information for the artist.
PROGRAM GUIDELINES
Pieces must be aesthetically appropriate for display in public places. This location is heavily used by children and families year round. When reviewing pieces for consideration, safety to the public (i.e. no sharp edges, no breakable or bendable components, no climbing hazards, etc.) and durability will be priorities for acceptance. Height shall not create a balance hazard.
Installation/Removal: The artist is responsible for transporting their work to and from the site and installing and removing the piece. There will be no exceptions.
The sculpture must be able to be structurally secured to a 4-feet by 4-feet concrete pad with bolts. No part of the art work can extend out of the area that could potentially be a tripping hazard. Consideration will be given to art that has a portion or portions that extend out of the area at a height taller than a tripping hazard.
Materials must be durable material that can withstand the variant temperatures.
Artists are responsible for transporting, installing and removing the artwork after the display period in accordance with the timeline agreed upon with the City of Raymore. The City shall oversee installation, but will not provide staff or equipment for the installation.
Electric is not available at the installation sites.
Artist has full legal title and copyrights to the art while on temporary loan to the City of Raymore.
Each artist selected to display will receive a $3,000 honorarium to help defray costs of transportation, installation, removal of the sculpture and all other expenses involved. Any costs over $3,000 are entirely the responsibility of the artist.
Selected artwork that cannot meet the scheduled installation and removal dates may be disqualified and an alternate piece may be chosen.
Artists may sell the exhibiting artwork during the scheduled time period. However, exhibiting artwork may not be removed until the exhibition has concluded in April 2028.
SELECTION PROCESS
Sculpture entries shall be juried by the Raymore Public Art Committee. The selected artist must enter into a contractual agreement approved by the City of Raymore.
