The Patrol Division of the Raymore Police Department consists of uniformed patrol officers, who are on duty 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and can handle nearly any situation that may arise.

General Responsibilities

Every patrol officer directs his/her best efforts to accomplish the functions of the department, including the following:

  • Preserving public peace
  • Protecting life and property
  • Preventing crime
  • Arresting violators of the law
  • Enforcing all laws and ordinances properly

Patrol Officers shall act intelligently and efficiently and hold him/herself in readiness at all times to respond to the requests of the public and to obey the orders of his/her superiors.

Field Training Program

When a new police officer is hired by the department, they must go through the Field Training Program. Currently there are four officers within the department that have completed a course in educating new officers. These officers have been designated as and given the title of Field Training Officer (FTO). 

The length of this program can vary for officers who have police experience before coming to the Raymore Police Department; however, for new police officers who have just graduated from a police academy, the program is a minimum of 12 weeks.

Training

All sworn police officers are required to obtain 48 hours of continuing education training every three years; however, most officers obtain far more training hours than are required. 

These training hours are broken down into particular areas, including:

  • Interpersonal perspectives
  • Skill development
  • Legal studies
  • Technical studies
  • Racial profiling
  • Firearms
