A safer drive on 155th Street

Starting Monday, Oct. 29, 155th Street from North Madison Street to North Kurzweil Road will be closed so construction crews can begin preparing the mile-long section of the road to be widened from 16 feet to 20 feet across.

The City has contracted with Superior Bowen for this third phase of the project and the entire project and expect to have the street reopened within about 30 days, depending on weather.

Some trees will need to be removed on the north side of 155th before crews can widen the road, and by closing the street for the duration of the project– residents living within the construction area will still have access to their homes– the project will be completed faster and more efficiently than if sections of the street were opened and closed at various stages of the project.

Message boards and detour signs will be posted in the area to direct drivers to alternate routes.

This is the third and final phase of the $1.4 million 155th Street Road Improvements and Bridge Reconstruction Project. The first two phases of the project included installation of pipe crossings, ditch work, street resurfacing and paving the section of 155th Street within Raymore City Limits and reconstruction of the bridge just east of North Madison Street.

Nov. 28 update: Unseasonable snows have slightly pushed back the anticipated open date of 155th Street. Crews are close to completing the street widening and are waiting for a few days in the next week or two where the ground is dry enough to complete the work on the street. Rain is in the forecast for this weekend, but work will continue as soon as conditions allow.

Oct. 31 update: Crews are prepping the north side of 155th Street for widening by removing some trees and clearing ground.
