Hire smart: City-licensed contractors are your home's best protection

Post Date:04/30/2026 8:42 AM

RAYMORE, MO – With the sun finally out and the season for home repairs and improvements upon us, many residents may be planning projects such as deck repairs, new sheds, residential fences or new roofs. To help protect your investment as a homeowner, please keep the following tips in mind:

Always verify that your contractor is licensed with the City. All contractors performing work in Raymore must be licensed with the City. Always ask for proof of a City license before hiring a contractor. Even if a contractor asks you to pull a permit as the homeowner, the company performing the work must still hold a valid City license. This ensures they are registered, insured and accountable for the work they do in our community. This also includes painters and lawn care professionals. To obtain a list of all licensed contractors in Raymore, email cityclerk@raymore.com or call 816-331-3324.

Check with the City regarding zoning or property maintenance code requirements. While some projects, particularly for the DIY'er, may seem simple, many are still subject to the City's various code requirements. It is important to verify with the City that a proposed project complies with adopted regulations such as property line setbacks, utility easement encroachments and permitting requirements, among others. To obtain information about code requirements or property records such as plot plan drawings, contact the Development Services Department at 816-331-0488.

These simple steps can help avoid costly mistakes in the future.
