RAYMORE, MO – RMayor Kris Turnbow presented a proclamation to Animal Control Officers (ACO) Caleb Waller and Shalynn Long at the April 13, 2026, City Council meeting to recognize the essential work they do that ensures public safety for animals and people.
Raymore ACOs are first responders for animals in need, whether they’re reuniting runaway pets with their owners, assisting sick and injured animals, investigating animal abuse and neglect calls, enforcing City ordinances regarding animals or helping a family adopt a pet.
“By balancing enforcement with animal welfare education, we help reduce animal-related incidents, prevent harm and improve the quality of life for both residents and animals,” ACO Caleb Waller said.
Waller says every decision an animal control officer makes should reduce suffering, promote responsible pet ownership and uphold the community’s commitment to humane treatment for all animals.
April 12-18 is Animal Care and Control Appreciation Week. This week provides an opportunity to recognize our ACOs for the work they do year-round. Their professionalism and dedication to protecting animals and educating the public on responsible pet ownership safeguards public health and enhances our quality of life in Raymore.
Two full-time ACOs serve Raymore seven days a week. In 2025, they responded to more than 1,300 calls for service and cared for 200* animals that came through their doors, including 134 dogs, 65 cats and one bearded dragon.
