RAYMORE, MO - Rep. Mike Haffner’s House Bill 1751 has been assigned to the Missouri House Local Government Committee. The committee hearing is Tuesday, Jan. 30 at 8 a.m. in House Hearing Room 7 at the Missouri State Capitol.
The public is invited to attend this hearing in Jefferson City and testify, but anyone unable to attend can submit a written testimony online here.
HB 1751 seeks to amend the current state statute RSMo 260.205(9) that only allows a community to have a say in whether a landfill can be located within a half mile of its border. The bill asks for a simple change in the language to extend that to one full mile. This bill would give Raymore a more meaningful voice in the discussion of a proposed landfill on our city's northern border. Any bill must make it through both the Senate and House and then be signed by the governor to become a law.
We also urge you to contact committee members to share your story and ask them to support HB 1751. It is necessary that all messaging to our state legislators be respectful. The Local Government Committee consists of the same members who unanimously approved Rep. Haffner’s identical HB 909 last year.
