Spirit of America Celebration Postponed
RAYMORE, MO - Raymore’s 2020 Spirit of America Celebration will not be held on the originally scheduled July 2 date. Rather than cancelling the event, members of the Park Board, City Council and staff have made the decision to move the celebration to Friday, Sept. 11 to celebrate Patriot Day.
“With social distancing guidelines still in place and Spirit of America being one of our largest events of the year, we just don’t feel that we would be able to give our residents the celebration they deserve if we held it in just a few weeks,” Parks & Recreation Director Nathan Musteen said. “We wouldn’t be able to have the fun activities for kids, food trucks or a band, and we would have to limit the number of people allowed in the park. We want our community members to be able to gather together for a really great event and our hope is to make that happen in September.”
Residents will still be able to purchase fireworks from licensed vendors and celebrate Independence Day at their homes with family and friends.
Raymore fireworks tents will open on June 28 and most fireworks are legal within City limits from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. July 1-3, and 10 a.m. to midnight July 4.
Residents are not allowed to shoot fireworks in public streets, sidewalks or parks. Bottle rockets, Roman candles and aerial luminaries (sky lanterns) are not allowed to be sold or used at any time.
