About the Position

The City of Raymore is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Engineering Technician to join our Public Works team. This position plays a key role in supporting engineering design, project management, plan review, and construction inspection to ensure compliance with City standards and ordinances.

What You’ll Do

As an Engineering Technician, you’ll:

  • Manage assigned capital improvement projects from design through construction.

  • Prepare, review, and update engineering drawings, plans, and specifications.

  • Inspect residential, commercial, and public infrastructure projects for compliance with approved plans, codes, and regulations.

  • Conduct modeling, testing, and analysis in support of engineering design.

  • Process right-of-way permits and inspect permitted work for compliance and proper restoration.

  • Research and update property records, plats, and utility information.

  • Coordinate with contractors, engineers, surveyors, and the public to resolve technical issues.

  • Maintain accurate project documentation and prepare reports, permits, and correspondence.

Additional Duties

  • Participate in snow and ice removal operations during the winter season (October–April).

  • Stay current on applicable laws, technologies, and best practices through ongoing training.

What We’re Looking For

Education & Experience:

  • Associate’s degree in Computer-Aided Drafting, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or a related field.

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in construction inspection, field engineering, or related work.

  • Or, any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge and skills.

Licenses & Certifications:

  • Valid Missouri Driver’s License.

Key Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong technical knowledge of civil engineering principles and construction standards.

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, maps, and specifications.

  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.

  • Proficiency with, GIS, and the Google Suite of products.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.

Working Conditions

Work involves both office and field environments, with occasional exposure to outdoor weather, construction sites, and traffic conditions. Moderate physical activity may be required, including lifting up to 20 lbs., kneeling, or working in confined spaces.
