Emergency Notification System

CASS COUNTY ANNOUNCES A NEW EMERGENCY NOTIFICATION AND WEATHER WARNING SYSTEM
Cass County 9-1-1 has purchased an Emergency Notification System. When an emergency arises, a telephone message will be activated by a 9-1-1 dispatcher. Utilizing the 9-1-1 database and mapping, the notification can be sent to a specific area or the entire county depending on the type of emergency. Some of the emergencies the system will be used for are:
Environmental (Natural Disasters)
Fires
Floods
Dangerous Water Conditions
Water Safety Alert
Dam/Levy Breaks
Man-Made Disasters
Terrorism Threats
Nuclear Hazards
Bio Terrorism Threats
Chemical Spills
Prisoner Escape Warnings
Crime
Hostage Situations
Sexual Predator Alert
Amber Alerts
Gas Leaks
HAZMAT Emergencies
Search and Rescue
Missing Children
Missing Elderly
Missing Disabled
Evacuation Notices
Evacuation Routes
All citizens are encouraged to register their address and telephone information to be assured of receiving all emergency notifications. If a citizen is not home, the message will be left on their answering machine or the message can be directed to a cell phone in addition to the citizen’s home phone.
If you own a business, the notification system works in the same way, simply register the address of your business and the telephone number associated with your business. You may also add an alternate cell phone so you will be aware of situations when you are away from your business.
A SEPARATE feature is the WEATHER WARNING NOTIFICATION. Those who would like to be notified of weather warnings (NOT WEATHER WATCHES) must sign up for this feature. The weather warning notifications will be given to targeted areas by the National Weather Service. If your address is in the path of the storm, you will receive notification via your registered phone, whether you register your landline phone and/or your cell phone. If you are not in the path of the storm warning, you will not receive notification. You may choose which warnings you want: tornado, flash flood and/or severe weather.
Your landline phone should be in the database already for Emergency Alerts. However, the Weather Warning is by registration only. To register your address and telephone, log onto www.casscounty.com and click on the CodeRED/Weather Warning icon to register (or the CodeRED logo above). If you do not have Internet access or you need assistance to register, call the 9-1-1 Department at 816-380-8224 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
