RESIDENTS CELEBRATE RIBBON CUTTING AT NEW RAYMORE ACTIVITY CENTER

Post Date:08/07/2018 8:44 AM

Mayor Kris Turnbow and members of City Council were joined by members of the Raymore Parks & Recreation Board and dozens of Parks & Recreation summer campers at the ribbon cutting of the new RaymoreIMG_3238 Activity Center (RAC) at Recreation Park Monday afternoon.

“First, I want to thank the voters who supported the construction of this new building. None of this would have been possible without your overwhelming support in 2016,” Turnbow said.

The RAC is one of several street and parks improvements and new amenities made possible by two no-tax increase bond projects approved by Raymore voters in 2016.

Turnbow also thanked members of the Parks & Recreation Board, City Council, Parks & Recreation staff, the City’s Community Development and Public Works departments, City Manager Jim Feuerborn and SFS Architecture and Westport Construction.

Summer campers gathered around City Council and Parks & Recreation Board members to cut the ribbon as residents watched from the bleachers.

Dairy Queen donated ice cream for everyone in attendance.

The 16,0000 square-foot multi-use gymnasium at 1011 S. Madison Street offers a full basketball court, an indoor walking/running track, a kitchen for concessions and office space for staff, allowing for recreational activities year-round.

The first programs slated to take place in the new facility include adult women’s and coed recreational volleyball, youth futsal, a physical education class for homeschoolers and youth basketball leagues.

The RAC will also be the headquarters of next year’s summer day camp hosted by Raymore Parks & Recreation. The camp headquarters are currently housed at the limited space of the Park House at 909 S. Madison St.

The new building will be a polling place for primary elections on Tuesday, Aug. 7, for voters in Cass County’s Precinct 30 and will open to the public in mid-September once final construction is completed.
